On August 6, 1911, Lucille Desiree Ball was born in Jamestown, NY. Lucy, as she came to be known worldwide, was not only a great comedienne, but a brilliant business woman. The driving force behind the Desilu studio, Lucy was responsible for green lighting many incredibly popular TV shows, including Star Trek and Mission Impossible.
Lucy is also the reason that the National Comedy Center is located in Jamestown, NY. The National Comedy Center is the United States’ official cultural institution dedicated to the art of comedy. It was inspired by Lucy’s own vision for her birthplace and features over 50 interactive exhibits and hosts the annual Lucille Ball Comedy Festival, which this year headlined Jerry Seinfeld, Bert Kreischer and Seth Meyers.
